ABSTRACT Kabib Musafingi. (2026). “The Role of Islamic Religious Education in the Family and School Religious Culture on Character Building of 8th Grade Students at SMPN 10 Kota Madiun”. Thesis. Master's Program in Islamic Religious Education. Postgraduate Program. Sunan Giri Islamic Institute (INSURI) Ponorogo. Advisor I: Prof. Dr. H.M. Suyudi, M.Ag. Advisor II: Dr. Arik Dwijayanto, M.A. This research is motivated by the critical importance of collaboration between the domestic environment (family) and formal institutions (school) in nurturing adolescent morality during the vulnerable pubertal transition phase. The primary focus of this study is to explore in depth the integration between the role of Islamic Religious Education (IRE) within the family environment and the implementation of school religious culture in shaping the religious character of eighth-grade students in public junior high schools. A qualitative approach with a descriptive case study design was employed. Data collection was carried out through in-depth interviews with IRE teachers, the school principal, parents, and eighth-grade student representatives, complemented by participant observation and documentation of religious programs. Data analysis utilized data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing techniques. The results reveal three major findings: (1) The role of IRE within the family experiences functional paralysis due to structural time constraints faced by urban working parents, leading to a vacuum of religious control. This triggers a lack of role models, weak digital parenting, ritualistic lies, and total moral displacement onto the school. (2) The implementation of school culture runs optimally through structured social engineering (Asmaul Husna recitation, morning Quranic reading, congregational Dhuhr prayers, and the 5S culture). However, this success is limited by school temporal boundaries, making student compliance merely peripheral or a formal-performative virtue. (3) The mesosystem relationship between families and the school suffers from a functional rupture. The study concludes that authentic religious character formation demands tight ecological synchronization between home and school environments.
