Reinterpretasi Metode Sorogan dan Bandongan Perspektif Andragogi: Studi Kasus Pondok Pesantren Darur Ridlo

Adult learning in pesantren often takes place through traditional kitab kuning instruction, particularly sorogan and bandongan. Although these methods preserve scholarly transmission and pesantren ethics, research has commonly examined them in relation to tradition or instructional outcomes, while their relationship to adult-learning principles remains less explored. This study examines the practice of sorogan and bandongan among adult santri at Pondok Pesantren Darur Ridlo and formulates an andragogical reinterpretation of the two methods. A qualitative case-study design was employed. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, participatory observation, and document analysis. Five informants were purposively selected: one pesantren leader, one administrator, and three adult santri. Data were analyzed through the interactive stages of data collection, reduction, display, and conclusion drawing/verification, supported by thematic coding. Source and technique triangulation, member checking, and an audit trail were used to support trustworthiness. The findings indicate that bandongan provides collective conceptual guidance through the kiai's reading, translation, and explanation, whereas sorogan deepens individual mastery through preparation, recitation, immediate correction, and repeated practice. Adult santri demonstrate intrinsic motivation, readiness to learn, responsibility, and a contextual learning orientation. However, the systematic use of learners' life experiences and structured reflection remain areas for development. The proposed conceptual model integrates Knowles's six andragogical principles into both methods while retaining pesantren values, scholarly lineage, and the kiai's authority.
